Realization of Spirituality Cases

CMC receives recommendations from each center/department on any medical staff and faculty with outstanding performance related to realization of spirituality and who may set the example for others in 5 parts, including education, therapy, pastoral care, administrative management and others every year. After deliberation from the committee for spirituality, the winners of the award on realization of spirituality are chosen.

Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Center (Identity Part) Image
Grand Award (Dept./Group): Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Center (Identity Part) Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Center has newly built a hospice ward for the first time in Korea as it regarded it is necessary to provide a special care service for terminally ill cancer patients. It laid the foundation stone in leading hospice and palliative care in Korea through consistent researches, efforts and devotion. Its service that contributed to institutionalization of hospice by the Government has been recognized.

Excellence Award (Dept/Group): Nursing Department, Daejeon St. Mary’s Hospital (Identity Part) The Nursing Department at Daejeon St. Mary’s Hospital established ‘Maeum Nursing (Mindfulness-Based Nursing)’ in 2003 to encourage nurses to practice Catholic spirituality and the spirit of medical missionary at the nursing field, and it has continuously practiced them for the past 10 years. Thus, it contributed to creating a desirable community culture and establishing/developing a spirituality-based management system for Daejeon St. Mary’s Hospital.

Participation Award (Dept./Group): Affiliated Clinic of Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital at Gaeseong Industrial District (Identity) The affiliated clinic of Uijeongbu St. Mary’s Hospital located at Gaeseong Industrial District played a role as a bridgehead in implementing an inter-Korean business project by the Korean Catholic Church that hopes to overcome the tragic division of Korea. It solidified its place as a ‘life manager’, not giving up any life under unexpected emergency conditions, and realized the Catholic’s identity of providing medical services.
Volunteer Service Department, St. Paul’s Hospital (Identity Part) Image
Participation Award (Dept./Group): Volunteer Service Department, St. Paul’s Hospital (Identity Part) The Volunteer Service Department at St. Paul’s Hospital set up an official volunteer service team in 1981 after the first participation of civilians as volunteer workers in 1968. From then on, it continuously provided volunteer services for those in need inside/outside the hospital based on its belief that the ‘Hospital and volunteer workers work together’ as well as communication and trust among volunteer workers. It contributed to developing a culture for volunteering that has a positive influence on others.
